Drift Wood

Description: Driftwood is naturally weathered wood shaped by water, wind, and sun, giving each piece a unique form, texture, and character. Over time, exposure to the elements removes softer fibers, leaving behind sculptural shapes with smooth contours, hollows, and natural curves. This organic appearance makes driftwood highly valued in decorative horticulture, interior styling, aquascaping, and terrariums. It is lightweight yet durable, typically free of resins once properly aged, and blends seamlessly with both modern and natural design aesthetics.

In staging air plants (Tillandsia), driftwood is especially effective because it closely mimics the plants’ natural growing environment. Air plants are epiphytes that grow on trees and branches rather than in soil, and driftwood provides excellent airflow, drainage, and anchoring points for their roots. Its irregular surfaces allow plants to be tied, glued, or wedged securely while creating visually striking displays that highlight the plants’ form and colour. Driftwood arrangements can be used as table centrepieces, wall mounts, or hanging features, offering a low-maintenance, natural way to showcase air plants while promoting healthy growth.
